History/Background

The Greater Scranton Black Diamonds Pipe Band was formed in May 1995.  Originally, it consisted of five members.  It has grown in numbers and talent since that time.  Currently, there are over 30 band members.  In addition, there are numerous students that are learning to play the pipes and drums in preparation for becoming full band members.

Most band members live in the Northeastern Pennsylvania and the Greater Scranton area.  It is a volunteer unit, and has members that range in age from teenagers to senior citizens who come from diverse backgrounds.

The band performs at numerous annual events.  It attends St. Patrick’s Day Parades in Binghamton NY, Scranton PA, Wilkes-Barre PA, Girardville PA, and Stroudsburg PA, and the annual Armed Forces Day Parade in Scranton in May.  The band has participated in the Washington DC, Memorial Day Parade, the Harrisburg PA St Pat's parade, and has often performed at the West Point Military Tattoo.  The band also performs at numerous volunteer fire company parades throughout the area during the summer months.

The band and band members are available to perform at parades, weddings, reunions, parties and funerals.
